2007 NBA Round Up

Well just in case you haven’t noticed, this author is a close follower of the NBA and an even closer follower of the San Antonio Spurs (made obvious by the top corner pic). In any case the point of this post is to say SPURS FOR 2007!!! NBA CHAMPIONS!!! w00t!!
hahaha! Now that I have that out of my system, I have a couple of things to add:
Dallas Mavericks – enough said…
Phoenix Suns – unfortunate event in the Spurs series with Stoudemire and Diaw both suspended for a game, but in my opinion you can’t put an asterisk against the 2007 Champions because it wasn’t their fault that they left the bench. Rules are rules, and I appreciate the fact that the NBA didn’t give any leniency towards the matter. For all of you who think that my opinion is biased, I would say the same if it were the other way around. I would blame the stupid players for not adhering to the most simplest of rules. I would ask those players, what is achieved by leaving the bench? Nothing. Let the refs handle the situation. That is why they should have been sidelined and Stern etc made the right decision. I also don’t condone the hard foul Horry gave Nash, but he was suspended for 2 games, and probably would only have been 1 if such a big deal wasn’t made out of it.
On to the final and boy, did LeBron James (or LeBroom) struggle. I have to admit though, I really love the guy. I love his no excuses, tell it like it is mentality. However it’s easy to blame it on one man but his cast struggled too. Red hot Gibson went cold, and the big Z went small. The good news for Cleveland is that they will learn from this experience and, provided they can get a better supporting cast for James, will be back in the finals in the future years to come.
Take nothing away from the Spurs though, they did what they do every year. They coast through the regular season, under the radar, putting all the heat on Suns and Mavs (no pun intended) and then when it comes to May/June for the playoffs, they step up big time. In my opinion, they are a back to back championship away from a dynasty. 4 championships from 9 years is an achievement but I mean come on! That’s only a 44% championship conversion rate. That’s only a description of a very successful team. Compare that to the Celtics of the 60′s, or even the Bulls of the 90′s. Now those are dynasties. That is why I will be hoping more than ever for a 2008 championship ring too. Hopefully they can break the voodoo and win in an even numbered year. Then the Suns and Steve Nash can win as many rings as they want, because they’ll never take away the dynasty of this decade, the dynasty of the Spurs.
