To finish off the lists for 2006, I have compiled a short bite size version for each category. Mainly due to the fact that I’m really lazy/have no time/lack a deep interest to write for each one in any great detail. Also a lot of them are based upon public opinion and sales either because I have not seen/played/listened to whatever is being rated.
Have an opinion on any? Let me know…

Movies:
Winner: The Departed
Runners Up:
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest

Video Games:
Winner: Gears of War
Runners Up:
Need For Speed: Carbon
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
New Super Mario Brothers
Bully

Websites:
Winner: finetune.com
Runners Up:
pandora.com
lifehacker.com
riffs.com
box.net
backpackit.com

TV:
Of course I could put the usual up here (i.e. Family Guy, Scrubs, 24 etc) but I wanted to put relatively new shows.
Winner: How I Met Your Mother
Runners Up:
My Name is Earl
The Office

After recognising the good, there is also the bad and the ugly… These were so bad, I had to include them to warn people on how shit they are so they could avoid them at all costs.

Worst for 06
Song: My Girl – Israel
OMG! Could there be a shitter song. How many times does he need to say it. Think of some more lyrics you fricken prick before you pollute the airwaves with your rambling shit!

TV: Lost (Excluding Today Tonight/A Current Affair/all reality television which all comes first by default)
How can anybody still watch this show? Does it answer any of the questions it raises? Or is there more questions being asked than answered? Are the writers so badly out of ideas that they need to put in random shit from the characters past? Don’t you hate when you ask a question and it doesn’t get answered? Lost fans must love my rant and must be ignorant fools. Either that or they like Evangeline Lilly, I can’t blame ‘em for the latter.

Website: myspace.com
No, I don’t want to cut myself, or make my eyes bleed, or listen to your shitty music, or think I’m ‘popular’ because I have 500 ‘friends’, or have full on conversations in the comments. Fuckin hell pick up a damn phone or at least use IM! (I realise this doesn’t apply to the majority of users). Can I also add that the concept of a social network is a fantastic idea, just very poorly executed. Unfortunately, it seems the other better social networks will never have the popularity that myspace does.

Wow I feel good getting all that of my chest…

Being a sports fanatic I’ve compiled a list of some of the most memorable Australian sporting moments of 2006. I’ve excluded international greatness from the list because I don’t really follow every sport overseas and for example I wouldn’t know anything about NFL or NHL etc (I’ve included some in the mentions). I’ve even tried to suppress my bias in this post as those who know me will be able to tell.
Well here we go:

6) Queensland defeats New South Wales 16-14 in the dying stages of the match to take out the State of Origin series. A horrible performance by NSW allows for Qld to touch the trophy again, after so many years of NSW dominance, it is the first time since 2002!

5) The Commonwealth Games held in March 2006 saw Australia take home a extremely large amount of medals and topped the medal tally (Well did you expect anything else?)

4) Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup win the Bathurst 1000 for Ford after a 7 year drought. They also pick up the inaugral Peter Brock Trophy, in memory of the great driver himself. 7 years… I say nothing.

3) West Coast Eagles beat the Sydney Swans in the AFL Grand Final by one point, 85-84. A thriller right down to the last second, the Eagles get their revenge from the Swans after the previous grand final. The number of close games between the two teams in recent times has surely created a rivalry between the clubs.

2) The Ashes whitewash, Australia smashing England 5-0 and add to that Warne’s 700th wicket and the departure of many from the Test team, leaves for one memorable series and has shut the mouths of many English supporters.

1) How could we forget the biggest event of the year? The event which brought a whole nation together and resulted in late nights and hungover days at work the next day. Australia qualifies for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 32 years and play their first game against Japan. So much hope and anticipation! All of which is dampened when Japan score the first goal. Then in the dying minutes of the game, Cahill pulls some magic not once, but twice and Australia win the game 3-1! Hope is restored! People start talking about making the next round. The rest, as they say, is history.

Honourable Mentions

Kobe Bryant scores 81 points. The second highest amount of points in a game in the history of the NBA. Quite an incredible feat.

Liverpool beat West Ham Utd to claim the FA Cup title after an equalizer in stoppage time brings the score to 3-3. They then go on to win the penalty shootout and the Cup. Fans say it is the best FA Cup Final ever, all I know is its the first one I didn’t get to watch for 5 years. Typical.

Well it was quite a great year for sport. We await for what 2007 has in store…

And now for the best music video clips for the year. I have to admit this was pretty hard, as I probably would not have seen every clip, so if I miss any let me know. Although I have seen quite a lot, both on TV and on the Internet (As you would know its hard for me not to see clips everyday)
Without any further ado:

6) Dani California – Red Hot Chilli Peppers – This is a truly awesome music clip, showing the history of rock ‘n’ roll by mimicking the likes of Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi, Nirvana and the like. The changes of eras are welded almost seamlessly. Well directed and choreographed, I highly rate it.

(Due to restrictions click me to watch)

5) White and Nerdy – Weird Al Yankovic – From the maker of such classics as “Fat” and “Eat It” comes one of the funniest clips of the year. Of course, to get the jokes you would have to watch the original clip. It caused worldwide stir on the internet and as a result was played continuously on TV. His album “Straight Outta Lynwood” soon followed, an absolute hilarious collection of songs to say the least.

4) Crazy – Gnarls Barkley – The hypnotic swirls which create this clip are definitely unique and it is ultimately one of the coolest clips this year. The smooth transitions between each picture match the smooth beats of the song which make for a classic clip.

3) My Love – Justin Timberlake – All hail the king! The clip is almost cooler than the song itself. With the likes of Timbaland and T.I. this song/clip is killer! Where do I start? The choreography, the direction, the great use of black and white, JT’s dancing, the camera angles, all absolutely incredible! Then to finish it off, a simple swirl and walk away. Beautiful.

2) Here It Goes Again – OK Go – When I first saw this clip, I could not believe how awesome it was. Seriously, this clip is absolutely brilliant. The choreography is spectacular! Who would have thought 4 guys on treadmills would be so entertaining. It’s one of those clips you can watch again and again, so go on, here it goes again.

Find out number one after the jump…

1) Touch the Sky – Kanye West – You knew I couldn’t help myself, yes, this is slightly biased. Despite all you haters out there, this is gotta be the best clip of the year, I mean “it cost him a million dollars” and “it had Pam Anderson” ha! Well seriously it is, because it truly is an epic clip. The doors closing, the camera angles, Kanye in the clouds, it had it all. I don’t know bout y’all, but before the day I die, I’ma touch the sky!

Instead of my usual Honourable Mentions I’ve included clips for all you guys out there. (Probably NSFW duh!) Enjoy…

I Don’t Need A Man – Pussycat Dolls

Unfaithful – Rihanna

Me & U – Cassie

Put Your Hand Up For Detroit – Fedde Le Grand

Who’s Your Daddy – Benny Benassi

I thought I may as well continue with the best albums for 2006:

6) In My Own Words – Ne-Yo – This album is just smooth and jam packed full of those love songs you can’t get enough of.

5) Continuum – John Mayer – While probably not as good as his previous one it still kicks ass! Heaps of great smooth, chillout tracks.

4) Stadium Arcadium – Red Hot Chilli Peppers – What can I say? The RHCP have done it again with this album, and reaching #1 in 26 countries is proof of that.

3) Once Again – John Legend – I spoke about this album in my singles list, he has gone for a more mellow tune which is great, but it lacks those upbeat tracks like Used to Love U and Number One which is why it is at number 3.

2) King – T.I. – This is by far one of the best albums of the year, with tracks like Why You Wanna and Live in the Sky how can you go past this?

And the winner is…

1) B’day – Beyoncé – I love Beyoncé and her music even more! Seriously this album is awesome! I don’t know if its the Jay Z influence or anything but the great tracks just keep coming one after another. Déjà vu, Ring the Alarm, Freakum Dress, Irreplaceable and Upgrade U to name a few, the list goes on.

Honourable Mentions

Other albums that are definitely worth a listen to:

St Elsewhere – Gnarls Barkley – Somehow combines smooth tunes with a hip beat which makes this album very unique. Highly recognised and has been nominated for many awards and won a few too.
Sam’s Town – The Killers – Another awesome album from this band which is really starting to make a name for themselves.
In My Mind – Pharrell Williams – This album is really underrated in my opinion. It seems he has spent too much time producing other people’s music other than his own (Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Madonna, Justin Timberlake etc.) Whether he wants to do that full time remains unseen, but he should at least promote his own album first.
Kingdom Come – Jay Z – Well I guess he couldn’t stay out of the game could he? He comes out of retirement with this album which is great but is not as epic as his previous albums.
Tha Blue Carpet Treatment – Snoop Dogg – This album is here purely for its entertainment value other than anything else so don’t go flaming me. It always good to hear deep and meaningful tracks but sometimes you need to listen to a full gangsta rap album with songs that have a great beat. It’s all about balance and moderation people!

Yes, 2006 has come to an end and what better way to celebrate than to have a look at the year that was in cliché style by ranking stuff in certain categories! yay!

We’ll start of with the Best Singles in 2006:

6) Save Room – John Legend – JL’s first song from his new album shows he has picked up where he left off. The album is awesome but for JL’s standards it is a bit lacking. However that’s because of the high expectation from his first album which can only be described as the best album ever.

5) Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol – Another one of those songs which is deep (and slightly emo).

4) Unfaithful – Rihanna – She can cheat on me anytime!

3) Irreplaceable – Beyoncé – To the left, to the left!

2) Touch the Sky – Kanye West – This song is epic, and makes you feel like you can do anything. It probably deserves number one spot if only it wasn’t quite so overplayed.

And now for number one…

1) My Love – Justin Timberlake ft T.I. – I love everything about this song. Old school JT just the way I like it.

Honourable Mentions

Because there was so much great music in 06 I had to add this section and so in no particular order we have:

Waiting for the World to Change – John Mayer – It’s John Mayer. Enough Said.
Margarita – Sleepy Brown ft Big Boi & Pharrell – The trademark summer song, after listening to it I feel like hitting a beach and relaxing.
When You Were Young – The Killers – One of the best for the year but didn’t quite make the list. I don’t know how The Killers keep churning out these great songs!
Number One – Pharrell ft Kanye West – Not quite number one but definitely worth a mention.
Forever Young – Youth Group – A song which became popular instantly probably due to the OC and Napoleon Dynamite, but didn’t quite make the cut.
Sexy Love (Remix) – Ne-Yo ft Candace Jones – Because love songs sung by guys always sound better with a female vocal.
Opportunity – Pete Murray – Finally a song from this artist which hasn’t been overplayed and is just as good, if not better, than his previous singles.
Dani California – Red Hot Chilli Peppers – No top list is complete without a RHCP song. They are truly the masters.

Well what do you think? Got it wrong or right? Let me know below
